PokerStars Pro and advocate of a fair game for all, Daniel Negreanu, has finally broken his silence regarding the recent changes in the online poker world.

Despite having the potential to cause a rift between his employer and the community, Negreanu recently took to his blog to talk about the policy changes at PokerStars which have caused outrage amongs some members of the industry.

In an effort to clear up some misconceptions about the rake alterations, Kid Poker explained that many of the changes had been planned before Amaya Gaming took control of PokerStars.

On top of this, Negreanu also reminded the community that "PokerStars remains the cheapest place to play" regardless of its rake increases. Moreover, according to his blog, PokerStars still has the most attractive VIP scheme which is more than enough to offset the recent changes.

To bolster his argument, Negreanu referenced the rake increases made by the WSOP a few years ago. At the time a number of players complained that the games would become unbeatable after the changes, but since then the festival has grown in size and broken several records.

The Community Reacts

Essentially, as Negreanu states in his blog, it's "business as usual" at PokerStars, but many members of the community aren't prepared to accept that argument. Although some have been sympathetic to both Negreanu and PokerStars, others have decided to fight back against and make their feelings known.

In a barrage of forum posts, players have called Negreanu everything from a liar to someone in denial about the situation. Moreover, one poster, 'KB24', has called for Negreanu to end his professional relationship with PokerStars.

In a post entitled "Petition for Daniel Negreanu to quit PokerStars", the online grinder wrote:

"If he really is a nice guy and wants to do what's good for poker, it's his time to step up and take a stand against PokerStars. I humbly request him to terminate his contract and make a public announcement for why he did."

Whether Negreanu will give up a lucrative sponsorship deal with one of the largest online poker sites in the world is unclear, but it does seem the pressure is mounting for him to respond in a more meaningful way. Regardless of Negreanu's next move, it does seem that some players are willing to fight the changes with a virtual protest.

In an effort to signal their discontent to the powers that be, some community members will be staging a "PokerStars Sit Out" on November 5.
