Ziigmund trumps Ivey in heads up battle

CrunchPoker Staff - 8 Sep 2009

Temperamental Finn Ilari ‘Ziigmund’ Sahamies and November Nine finalist Phil Ivey were at loggerheads last night on the high stakes PLO tables at Full Tilt.

Ziigmund snaffled $200k off Ivey in very fortunate circumstances, prompting him to quit the 'Ivey Thunderdome' after just 97 hands.

Ivey lost a $165k pot when his aces were cracked by Sahamies. After a $9k 3-bet pre-flop by Ivey (A A J 5), Ziigmund (7 8 Q 10) flat called. The 10 2 9 flop gifted Ziigmund top pair, an open ended straight draw and back door flush draw. Ivey led out for $14k, drawing a quick call.

The 10 spiked on the turn, giving Ziigmund a set. Presumably putting the Finn on a draw, Ivey fired a $37k bullet, only to be re-popped all in. Pot committed, Ivey made a belated call, and the 9 on the river was no help.

The next hand was the last straw for Ivey, as he left shortly after. With $19k in the pot on a 5 2 5 flop, Ivey (9 4 5 6) held trips. Ziigmund (K 10 J 10) led out for $18k, drawing an all in raise from Ivey. Ziigmund made a questionable call with his over pair, but was rewarded when the 3, A spiked to give him a flush draw and the $110k pot.
