The bubble has been burst at the WSOP Main Event as 407 players remain. Matt Affleck became the new chip leader with a 1,819,000 stack, followed by Ludovic Lacay.
Pro presence in the tournament dwindled severely, with the likes of Phil Hellmuth, Mike Sexton, Chris Ferguson and Paul Wasicka hitting the rails. 11 times bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth’s exit came in an intriguing 3 way pot. On a J 10 3 board, Hellmuth’s AA was called by Kenny Hsiung’s J10 and Kevin Jenkins’s 89. A 7 on the turn gifted Jenkins the nuts and eliminated Hellmuth. With the average chip mark just under 500,000, Phil Ivey is in a commanding position as he roosts on 1,276,000 chips, followed closely by Bertrand ‘ElkY’ Grospellier. Joe Hachem is the only former world champion remaining in the event.
Jeff Lisandro’s progression through Day 3 of the WSOP Main Event coupled with Ville Wahlbeck’s departure sees the morbid Italian enigma capture the ‘WSOP Player of the Year title’. Lisandro has established himself as the best Stud player in the world, with a hat trick of bracelets in the variant. He’s also reached five final tables in what has been a memorable World Series.
David ‘Raptor’ Benefield, a pro from the esteemed instructional video site Cardrunners, has opted to quit poker for the foreseeable future, as he prepares to embark on school. ‘Raptor’ has been one of the most consistent high stakes grinders on Full Tilt Poker for the past five years, and recently appeared on the ‘Nets v Vets’ Poker After Dark week.
Meanwhile Cake Poker has released a client for Windows operated mobile phones. Mobile phone poker applications are not a new phenomenon, as games such as ‘Zygna’s Live Poker 40K’ offer the player the chance to pit their wits against the computer. But Cake is the first network to offer portable real money play. Although all ring games are available, you are unable to process cash outs and deposits for security reasons.
