WSOP 2011 May Move to Caesar’s

CrunchPoker Staff - 29 Apr 2010

The 2010 WSOP may be the last to be held at the Rio.

Next year the World Series of Poker may have new digs if brand owner Harrah’s Entertainment goes forward with plans to sell the Rio All Suites Hotel and Casino.

Two years ago Harrah’s considered moving the WSOP to another of their properties, Caesar’s Palace, but figured the Rio would do a better job handling the slew of poker players in town for the two month long series. Now that Harrah’s is struggling to pay down their massive debt load, a sale of the Rio has moved occupancy concerns to the back burner.

There are a couple of interested parties when it comes to selling the Rio by Christmas, including Starwood Capital Group and Colony Capital.

Poker players gearing up for the 2010 WSOP don’t have to worry, however, as the festivities are on track for the Rio, kicking off May 27 and running through July 17.  There will be 57 events for the 2010 World Series of Poker. Players who wish to qualify online can do so at various poker rooms like PokerStars.
