South earns a cool $800k

Cardrunners instructor Cole South epitomised the volatile nature of PLO by recording an $800k profit in a single session on Full Tilt Poker.

Accompanying the likes of Chau Giang, Gus Hansen and Phil ‘OMGClayAiken’ Galfond at the $200/$400 6-max tables, South, known affectionately as ‘CTS’ blew away the competition.

Gus Hansen felt the brunt of South’s pole axe, succumbing in several $100,000 pots and losing the 12th biggest online pot of 2009 – worth $446,583.

Hansen, who has been one of the most active high stakes players of late, can consider himself unfortunate in one pot. Holding Ad As Qh Ks for the nuts pre-flop, he flat called South’s $60K raise, with the Cardrunners pro getting frisky with 8h Ac Qc 9d.
The flop was a dream for South – 8c 2c 9h – giving him top two pair and a nut flush draw. With so much invested in the pot, the all in from Hansen was a formality, and the Jh 5c on the turn and river brought no respite for the Great Dane.
