The First Annual Poker Bots Only Tournament will run in August.
No humans are allowed in the game coming to Indiana University where a ‘poker bots’ only tournament will run in August.
In the online poker world the idea of a poker bot is the bane of the average player, facing a comparatively perfect system programmed to win. In this tournament competitors will enter their own computer playing programs to see whose is the best.
“We have every contestant write an artificial intelligence for playing poker,” said event planner Eric Jiang. :Once they write it, all these poker bots will play in a tournament. That’s pretty much the big picture of how it works.”
The game is limit hold’em and the point of the tournament is to test the limits of
computer science students and help them apply their studies outside the classroom.
Of course the $200 for first place and $100 for second place won’t be frowned upon.
