Pros in PLO binge

Patrik Antonius, Phil Ivey and Tom Dwan all took to the virtual felt in what has proved to be an epic week of high stakes action.

Playing a mixture of 6-max $300/$600 PLO and $1000/$2000 HU Fixed Limit Hold’em, durrrr dropped nearly $350k over the weekend. Despite such mammoth swings, Dwan remains up over $3.6 million for 2010 – a sharp contrast to last year.

Little could separate Phil Ivey and Patrik Antonius, with the measured Finn eking out a $67k profit. Despite losing $91k over the weekend, Ivey remains second in the online poker profit list for this year. 2010 has been a quiet year online for the world’s most revered player. He has no doubt been pre-occupied by the divorce from his former wife Luciaetta, and the sale of his Las Vegas mansion.

Highlights of the action included a $172k pot for Patrik Antonius. One hand in particular epitomised PLO’s volatile, unpredictable nature. Antonius (8 10 2 A) led out for $4.2k on a 6 7 Q board, and Dwan (J J 6 2) flat called with an inferior flush draw. The on the turn gifted Dwan trips and he check-raised Patrik to $50k. Antonius called with the nut flush draw and gutshot straight draws, and was dually rewarded with the K on the river. Dwan shipped the remainder of his stack, and although a diamond flush was on the board, Antonius made an easy call with the straight given the money already invested.

Antonius (10 Q 4 8) continued to be Dwan’s (6 Q 10 5) tormentor, cunningly slow playing the nuts on a J 98 4 board. Despite missing his open ended straight draw, Dwan tried to bluff the full house when the 7 bricked on the river. He led out for $31k, and Antonius made a solid call to scoop the $100k pot.
