Isildur1 soldiers on, Dwan fights back

CrunchPoker Staff - 16 Dec 2009

After being bullied out of $4 million by Brian Hastings in a brutal PLO session, (which saw the team Cardrunners member claim $2.8 million over expected value), Isildur1 is back grinding amongst middle-earth.

$200k starting stacks have become $20k, as Isildur1 dropped down to $50/$100 to tackle Cole South in a less financially volatile environment. A few days ago, it seemed like despair for the unknown Swede as he sarcastically asked Hastings to, ‘take his last few $$’. But, buoyed by all the high stakes fanatics on twoplustwo, Isildur1 has returned.

Sadly for Isildur1 and the gaggle of Full Tilt Poker railbirds, he remains stuck in a rut, losing $238k in a marathon session. The relentless aggression that negated Tom Dwan so well seems less effective against the more conservative Cardrunners pros. Highlights included a $126k pot, with the money going in on a 9 7 K flop. South tabled A 4 2 A for an over-pair and nut flush draw, and Isildur1 10 8 9 Q for a wrap draw. The 5, A on the turn and river gifted South top set and the pot, with questions remaining over the Swede’s decision to chase a non-nut draw.

Meanwhile, durrrr’s new hair-do means a new chapter in his high stakes book. Along with 16 other pros, including Barry Greenstein, Doyle Brunson and Eli Elezra, Dwan has shaved his head in a show of solidarity for poker player Thuy Doan, who has been battling cancer. Dwan is slowly looking to erase his $6 million deficit for the year, starting with a $107k winning session yesterday.

In between playing at the WPT Doyle Brunson Five Diamond Classic (Dwan’s Full Tilt signature means we’ll be seeing more of him on the tournament circuit), he squared off against Cole South at $100/$200 PLO. With pots now around the more modest $100k mark, durrrr (4 K 9 8) turned the nuts on a 3 10 8 6 board. It was a disastrous turn for South (A 6 4 6) as he made trips, and with all the money in, the 9 on the river was no help. The $120k pot was duly handed over to Dwan.

Finally, rumours are circulating over a controversial new addition to the Team PokerStars roster – Mike Tyson. Johnny Lodden recently alluded to the impending signature of a ‘huge sports star’ in his blog. The former heavyweight, pound for pound great has endured a torrid personal life, with the death of his young daughter earlier this year, but still found time to play in the Ante up for Africa charity event.
