Negreanu: critical of Hellmuth's style
New Team Full Tilt acquisition Tom Dwan is making a valiant attempt to reduce his $6 million online deficit.
A defiant durrrr confessed that 2009 online has been a year to forget, but encouraged doubters to ‘cross book him in any game’. The term ‘cross book’ was recently coined in Poker after Dark, when Negreanu elected to cross book Phil Hellmuth. It means that the booker has to match any money made by the subject (effectively doubling his winnings), but will receive the same amount if he loses.
After dabbling in $50/$100 PLO, Dwan squared off against British pro DjAdi at $500/$1000 NLH. In a quick-fire session including just 64 hands, durrrr booked a $94k win to take his daily profit up to $205k. This was despite DjAdi scooping one of the largest pots, in what symbolised a bit of a cooler for Dwan. Raising on the button with 8

, DjAdi nailed the 9

flop, leaving Dwan drawing effectively dead with his 7

. Only the 10
for the straight flush could save durrrr, but the 7

bricked on the turn and river to gift the $200k pot to the unknown Brit.
Meanwhile the ‘railbird heaven’ edition of PAD the cash game came to an eventful conclusion. Tom Dwan put his online woes behind him, racking up a monster $900k stack, with Phil Ivey the second biggest winner, despite losing money on proposition bets. When host Leanne Tweeden sat down for a post-game summary, the outspoken Daniel Negreanu stuck the needle into Phil Hellmuth. The Ultimate Bet ambassador had a disastrous week, dropping nearly $200k, after a curious blend of ultra-tightness and reckless aggression.
Negreanu, who stands to win $200k from Hellmuth after cross booking him, claimed the tournament specialist couldn’t compete with Ivey, Dwan and Antonius, who are nosebleed stakes regulars. He argued the Full Tilt entourage were sophisticated enough to exploit Hellmuth’s nitty style, and that he would continue to cross book him if Hellmuth continued to square off against players of that calibre. Unusually, Phil’s response was rather muted, but he did point out he was a $300k winner on the last series of PAD.
