Cardrunners in Ivey Q and A

CrunchPoker Staff - 4 Aug 2009

Poker news site Cardrunners.com have grilled the immutable Phil Ivey about his WSOP 2009 Main Event exploits. The ‘Tiger Woods’ of poker capped a double bracelet triumph with a ‘November Nine’ appearance.

Despite ousting 6,494 players and being guaranteed $1,263,602 for his efforts, Ivey remains calm about his prospects. He will start as a short stack, but with bountiful live experience, it shouldn’t faze Ivey.

The future Hall of Famer stands to scoop millions in proposition bets if he takes the coveted World Championship bracelet – he is guaranteed $2 million alone from fellow Full Tilt pro Andy Bloch alone if he wins.

In a brief interview with Cardrunners, Ivey describes his inherent love the game, and how he  turns his attention to Bobby’s Room after tournament play. He speaks of his admiration for young British pro James Akenhead, and his displeasure at the four month interim period, claiming it allows players to tweak their strategy.

Meanwhile David Benyamine has had a change of fortunes on the Full Tilt Poker PLO tables. The Frenchmen, sometimes labelled 'Degenyamine' by critics for his relentless pursuit of high stakes action, pocketed over $180k in a single session from Gus Hansen.
