Bichon triumphs at Cyprus Classic

Frenchmen Thomas Bichon triumphed at the World Poker Tour Merit Cyprus Classic for a handsome $579,165 pay day. The $10k buy-in NLH tourney was the first major international event to be held in the exotic island.

The 181 strong field attracted some stellar names, including NBC heads up Championship winner Huck Seed, multiple bracelet winner Nenad Medic and Pokerstrategist Jonathan Little.

Rony Jazzar hit the rail in first in acrimonious fashion, after starting the final table as chip leader. He lost the majority of chips in a wild bluff against Rep Porter, and then exited when his KQ succumbed to Uri Keidar’s 8 6 on a Q 7 5 2 10 board. Porter was the next to go, as he moved all in with Q 10 on a 9 5 3 board. Bichon called with top set, and no miracle club came to save Porter.

Bichon beat Uri Keidar into second place when his 7 7 won a race. The board panned out 7 A K 10 3 and Bichon clinched his first major title.

Meanwhile local Johannes Jorgensen triumphed in the bizarre PartyPoker Sky event. 21 players were suspended 50 metres in the air by a crane, outside Copenhagen Town Hall. Jorgensen receives a $13k PartyPoker World Open V package for his high flying efforts, where he will square up against the likes of Tom Dwan and Mike Sexton for the $250k first prize.
