Antonius too hot for Hold’em

Action returned to the 6-max high stakes tables on Full Tilt Poker last night, with iconic Finn Patrik Antonius enjoying a $383k winning session as big pots fell left, right and centre.

With the likes of Antonius, Phil Ivey, Di ‘Urindanger’ Dang and Kingofcards occupying the $500/$1000 tables, railbirds were in for a real treat. They were rewarded with a monster $581k pot played out between Dwan and Antonius.

Antonius made it $3.5k on cut-off with A 8, drawing a call from Dwan. He hit the 5 6 4 flop in spectacular fashion with the Ace high flush. Antonius led out for $7k, and Dwan elected to flat call. The 8 spiked on the turn, and Patrik followed up with an $18k bet, only to be re-popped by Dwan to $52k. Antonius made it $116k in total, and Dwan flat called. The K bricked on the river, drawing an all in from Antonius and a call from Dwan, who elected to muck his hand. The $581k pot went swimming over to Antonius, and we can only assume Dwan had a straight or lower flush.

Dwan made some amends when his Q Q held up against the 10 K of Antonius, with both players all-in on a 3 10 5 flop. However, the Finn vented his frustration on Kingofcards, and was aided by a devastating river.

With $21k in the pot, Kingofcards (4 6) led for $12k on a 7 6 3 flop. Antonius, holding the 5 A for a gutshot straight draw, flat called. The A came on the turn, and Antonius bet $28k, drawing a call. The 4 spiked on the river, completing Patrik’s straight, however he made a sneaky check, hoping to induce a bluff. It worked to perfection, with Kingofcards firing a $131k all in. Although he had hit two pair, it was unlikely to be good on such a dangerous board. Antonius called and collected the $367k pot.
