A few more stellar names have been snapped up to participate in inaugural Caesars Cup, to be held on Sept 25th at London’s Empire Casino. The titanic, cross-Atlantic clash will adopt a Ryder Cup-esque format, with players being ‘tagged in’ to go heads up.
America’s captain Daniel Negreanu has added poker legend Doyle Brunson to his star studded line-up which includes 11 times bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth, the immutable Phil Ivey and 2008 WSOPE winner John Juanda. Negreanu has also selected close friend and female poker star Jennifer Harman, widely considered one of the globe’s leading limit players.
Europe captain Annette Obrestad has added cool Finn Patrik Antonius, and, in what represents a bit of a controversial selection, Ilari ‘Ziigmund’ Sahamies. The hot-headed PLO star was engaged in a war of words last night with rival Scandinavian Gus Hansen on Full Tilt Poker. Ziigmund, supposedly playing drunk, amassed a monster stack $500k stack at a 9-handed $300/$600 table, drawing criticism from Hansen for his reckless play.
WPT player of the year Bertrand ‘ElkY’ Grospellier, 2008 WSOP Main Event champ Peter Eastgate and flamboyant, AS Roma scarf wearing Italian Dario Minieri are also included in the Europe roster. The team will also feature a lucky Betfair Poker qualifier. Fans are hoping that the final Americans spot is given to young sensation Tom Dwan.
The event will ‘feature heads-up and two-man doubles matches, with single points awarded for each match’, according to Pokerlistings.com.
