There have been South African players at the WSOP, and now the WSOP may be playing in South Africa.
Each year when the last events are played in Las Vegas the WSOP isn’t over; it just switches over to the WSOP Circuit. This year the WSOP Circuit may include some events that range far and away from Nevada, as two non-bracelet event are tentatively slated to take place at the Emerald Resort and Casino in South Africa this October.
A three-day $1,100 buy-in pot-limit Omaha event with $300 rebuys and a four-day $5,000 buy-in no-limit hold'em event are the events in question.
"Poker has, over the past half-decade, accelerated in popularity,” said Emerald Resort and Casino CEO Martin Rice. “Our Emerald Poker Series, and its growing fields, is testament to the unlimited success of the sport. It was only natural to follow-on its popularity with the greatest tournament on the planet."
