PokerStars tests new technology at UKIPT Nottingham

CrunchPoker Staff - 16 May 2010

The United Kingdom and Ireland Poker Tour is the place where PokerStars is testing out some new poker technology.

One of the neatest parts of poker TV is watching the hole cards of the players, typically viewed via an under-table camera. Live poker is exciting to a degree when it is broadcast around the web, but without the hole cards it is lacking some of the engagement. PokerStars is trying to change all of that.

During a side event at the Dusk Till Dawn Poker Room in Nottingham during live webcast coverage on Sunday, May 16th an automated card recognition system called Perlego will read each card equipped with an encrypted infrared barcode.

The broadcast will be subject to a 15 minute delay in order to keep any chance at cheating down. Fans can watch the live webcast on the UKIPT website at ukipt.com
