Short handed means only six players, and that means a different strategy than full tables. You will be able to open your gap, playing a wider
range of cards, because there are less chances for cards that can hurt you to be in play (like if you have kings, less chance for an opponent to have a ace to match the one on the flop.)
Rebuys means just that- you can buy back in if you bust out, but only for a limited time, usually the first few rounds.
