The Godfather of Poker gives his blessing

Doylesroom’s chief Doyle Brunson made his thoughts known for the Poker Hall of Fame choice for 2010.

If there was one poker player living who could single handedly pick one player out of a line up to represent the Good of Poker, it would be the Godfather of Poker himself, the venerable Doyle Brunson.

Recently Doyle returned to his blog to write about the Poker Hall of Fame nominees in advance of the WSOP Main Event, which is when the Hall of Fame will have its induction ceremony. For the ladies in the running he had nothing but good things to say, but like most of the fellows he said they were not yet ready to be inducted.

The criteria for election to the Poker Hall of Fame are, as Doyle wrote: A player must have played against top competition, played for high stakes and played consistently well, gaining the respect of their peers, and stood the test of time and contributed to the overall growth and success to the game of poker.”

Chris “Jesus” Ferguson came close, and Scotty Nguyen needs to wait until folks forgive his WSOP antics, according to Doyle. So who did Texas Dolly pick? Erik Seidel. In addition to meeting the criteria Brunson gave Erik high praise when he wrote: “He reminds me of Chip Reese.” He went on to say “If Seidel isn’t one of the inductees, I’ll be very surprised.”
