Poker players braved freezing weather to play the Sky Poker Tour second leg in Newcastle.

David ‘Daveyzz’ Marley took home the first prize of £4000 as well as a seat into the Sky Poker Tour Grand Final, which will play at the Dusk Till Dawn cardroom in Nottingham this September. Marley outlasted 149 other entrants to win and qualified for the Newcastle event online at SkyPoker for just £5.20.

The event was held at Newcastle’s Aspers Casino on Saturday 9th January for a few hours before the action got down to the final table. Marley gives this insight of his game: “I played a standard game really – steady. I stole a few blinds, and when I had to I played my big hands big. The final table was tough. I had come in on 9th out of 10 and 5th out of 5, and just got myself up there.”

In the end the top nine finishers were:

1st David Marley £4,000
2nd David Evans £2,600
3rd Richard Robinson £1,800
4th John Pickering £1,350
5th Gary Graham £1,050
6th Carl Teasdale £900
7th Helen Rideout £750
8th Mick Jennings £600
9th Andrew Burden £450

The next leg of the Sky Poker Tour will be held in Luton on 6th March 2010.
